TMJ Exercise - Simple Ways To Alleviate Your TMJ Pain


TMJ dysfunction can be a very painful ailment that can affect not only the jaw, but the upper body as well. The arms, head, and neck can also experience pain and numbness. However, these sometimes debilitating symptoms can be alleviated with proper TMJ exercises. It just takes the right exercises and a little bit of a commitment. TMJ exercises are a much better alternative to risky TMJ surgery, which can leave one off worse, than when they began. Effective, TMJ exercises helps re-teach the jaw how to open and close correctly.

To begin, find a mirror and stand in front of it. Open and close your mouth slowly. Keep your head straight. If you suffer from TMJ dysfunction, your jaw will open to one side. Concentrate and focus on opening your mouth straight. This will be a bit difficult because muscles on one side of your mouth or jaw are weak and do not function properly. Open and close your mouth correctly 10 times, than rest. Do this TMJ exercise 3 times (3 sets). Perform 3 sets of these TMJ exercise 3-4 times a day. This exercise will help the jaw re-learn to open and close correctly.

To alleviate muscle pain due to tight jaw muscles, perform the following TMJ exercise: Slowly, open your mouth as wide as you can. Then slowly close it. Next, slowly open your mouth to the right as wide as you can, then slowly close it. Lastly, slowly open your mouth to the left as wide as you can, then slowly close it. Repeat these stretching exercises at least 3 times a day. Perform these until you begin to experience some relief.

TMJ dysfunction can be incredibly painful and frustrating. However, with proper TMJ treatment, which includes specific TMJ exercises, you can begin to experience relief without the dangerous risk of jaw surgery.
